As pleasant as it would be to be able to walk to work. There simple is no way I could afford my own place in Manhattan. So, it's back to the regular daily subway/tube ride I know and love from London.
Subways in New York are broken down into express and local services. If you aren't used to it, this can be pretty confusing and frustrating, as you sail past the stop you wanted, but after a while it becomes second nature. The closest express line into the city from around me is the Q which gets me into Union Square in around 15 minutes.
As a brucey bonus, it offers up spectacular views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the financial district on my commute.
